Best Music Videos of 2009, Part 1

Continuing from 2008's countdown, I've carved out time to watch several dozen videos and picked ten that I want to highlight. Without further ado, and minimal commentary - hopefully they speak for themselves: 10. The Dead Weather: "Treat Me Like Your Mother" [dir. Jonathan Glazer]

Takes a simple, wild premise and plays it out in real time, bestowing it with fierce authenticity, synched perfectly to the tune.

The rest after the break...

9. Wavves vs. the British Railway Council: "No Hope Kids" [dir. Pat Vamos]

Best found footage remix of the year.

8. Chairlift: "Evident Utensil" [dir. Ray Tintori]

I don't know how easy this is to do with whatever computer program, or if the avant garde video world has already hit this technology, but needless to say this is eyepoppingly trippy.

7. Ramona Falls: "I Say Fever" [dir. Stefan Nadelman]

I might support the Second Amendment if firearms only turned people into Max Ernst figures...

6.Charlotte Gainsbourg [ft. Beck]: "Heaven Can Wait" [dir. Keith Schofield]

Viva Luis Bunuel. A succession of absurdist situations that move faster than the mind can fully take in. A So-Cal subconscious dreamscape unleashed with HD clarity.

Stay tuned for numbers 5-1 tomorrow...
