The Future of Cinema at the Locarno Film Festival

How can a film festival thrive both online and offline, all year round? Can the magic of Locarno's Piazza Grande be transmitted to a geographically distant audience beyond 11 days in August? How can a festival be a space for a society where everyone has the tools for using cinema as an everyday language?  The Locarno Film Festival Professor for the Future of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts explores the continuous changes occurring within cinema in relation to technological and societal transformation. This chair produces valuable insights for the Festival’s innovation and development through a range of activities including research, teaching, publishing and curation.
