For some reason watching this movie greatly dissipated my motivation
to maintain this website, and finally after a month am I catching up.
What triggered this lethargy? This movie had a lot going for it,
with an increasingly charismatic Pierce Brosnan, and Michael Apted, the
most prestigious director to take on Bond, assuming the helm. Sophie
Marceau is ravishing as the tortured heiress, Bond's initial love interest.
The movie comes to a crashing halt when Denise Richards enters the scene
-- looking like Lara Croft and acting like a drone. juvenile completely
implausible. then you realize that the lead villain has nothing interesting
about him either.
trying to be deep or complicated -- like the effects on a decidedly
innocent person of a questionable call not to rescue or ransom an innocent
girl. or...the love affair between her and the villain. tried
a foray into something new and failed... because it was a halfass attempt.
