I appreciated the elements of religion and philosophy and how they were integral to the story and the main character, but otherwise it left me oddly cold.  I suppose there is intended to be an element of titillation at the thought of two men -- and then just one man -- speaking plainly with a very inviting woman, but I think it helps a lot if you know Catholicism -- and it helps much more if you know Pascal.  The thought of a certain woman being perfectly suited to a certain man, and the man being devoted enough to wait for that woman to come into his life, evokes childhood fantasies of mine, but still this film didn't speak to me as much as Chloe in the Afternoon, which remains far and away my favorite Rohmer movie.
