I was long under the impression that this is a bad movie (must have been all the sequels), but it has some great moments like this one that remind me of Jean Cocteau that tap into an uncanny source of dread.
For better or worse, this film goes as deep into that really awful 18-25 year old range of the American male psyche as any film I can think of. Regressive childishness making one last stand against the institutions of adulthood (jobs, marriage, responsible living). Come to think of it this movie is kind of like the WILD BUNCH of coming of age movies.

The one interesting image from this movie - the black housemaid with a champagne glass. I doesn't surprise me that the director's sole instance of acknowledging race issues in his entire career is treated like a throwaway, a visual one-liner, but for me it suggests so much about the character and what this disruption in her world may offer for her in stepping out of her normal role. I personally would have preferred seeing this movie through her eyes instead of the main characters, as harmlessly bland as they are.
